Bah! I thought I had the ultimate definition of Art (which you graciously have quoted) and I just discovered that US critic and poet Amy Lowell (1874-1925) said basically the same thing in a more graceful way:
Art is the desire of a man to express himself, to record the reactions of his personality to the world he lives in.
